Volunteering at the MCBC Golf Tournament

So I'm liking this new schedule of blogging every other day. I don't have enough to write or enough time each day so I hope that I can get all the details in in these less frequent posts.


Yesterday, we didn't have to come in to work. We don't really have anything to do as we are still in the presentations mode so we thought we would just "work" in the apartment. Strangely enough, this did not happen. We slept in and had lunch at our favorite mall- Publika. We did some shopping and then came home to pack my bag. One of my roomates works at MCBC (Malaysia Canada Business Council) and had to prepare a golf tournament and needed our help. Therefore, we decided to all pitch in and help our friend. We packed overnight bags and headed for the train in the evening. We arrived at the golf course which was about a 45 minute train ride away and helped the MCBC staff set up. We then had a big supper together and got to our hotel around midnight. The hotel was very interesting. They told us beforehand that it was cheap and small but we didn't really believe them until we saw it. Here are some pictures of our stay...

 We had to be up and ready to go by 5:45 so most people only got a few hours of sleep. Good thing we were the only ones in the hotel (or hostel as it should be called) because we were super loud and rowdy. We woke up early, headed to the course and started getting ready for the golfers to arrive. They had to register at 6:30, have breakfast and start their 18 holes of golf. We had 72 people signed up and only two didn't show up. All the golfers also got a big goodie bag, an umbrella, a shirt, and other gifts! They better because they had to pay RM400 for this day which is quite expensive. 


When the golfing was in full swing (no pun intended :D), we got to sit at a drink station and offer the golfers free drinks. These consisted of coffee, juice, water, pop or the ever popular BEER. After that, we got to drive around on the drink cart and hand out more drinks. It was a hot and humid morning but thankfully the wind picked up closer to mid day.

 When the golfing was done shortly after 1 in the afternoon, the participants had to shower and get back to the ballroom for prizes and lunch. One of the honoured guests here was the high commissionaire of Canada. He is the Canadian guy who runs the embassy in Malaysia and is very well respected and got to play in the VIP group.  Lunch was really good. Lots of prizes were given out including fancy weekend trips at golf resorts around south east Asia. When it was all over and done, we cleaned up, packed our bags, and headed to the train station again. We were home around 5pm. The sky was black and we had an intense thunderstorm with a down poor. Our apartment also experienced a downpoor as one of the AC units leaked again right onto the TV which started to spark. This AC is connected to two other units which also started to leak. Luckily, the guy came in to fix this and as soon as he was gone, another AC unit started leaking. We are not having much luck with our room. Once the rain stopped, we grabbed some supper and watched a movie in our king bed. Right now, I've been up for 19 hours and it's time to go to bed and get a well deserved sleep. 
Tomorrow is another field trip to see the friendly monkeys and fireflies.
